Primary Responsibilities:

The extruder operator will bring up the line when it goes down, or in the event of a cold or warm start-up. Once the line is up to speed, inserting trim blades and pulling trim. Set counter for correct footage and indexing winder to begin production. Ensure the webs are correct width and must set up trim blades to the correct width prior to a product change over. Check and record roll weights every (2) hours to ensure that correct gauge is maintained throughout the shift. Use the information for statistical process control. Know how to calculate average roll weight for daily production and end of shift report. Monitor stretch testing; make sure that the stretch percentage (drop speed) is correct for the different products. Identify and problems in the film that may cause test procedure failure, such as gels, fingerprints, fish eyes or bad roll edges. Fill out daily production report and keep count the number of rolls made on the shift. Keep track of actual downtime and cause. Knowledge of how many pounds of scrap film were made during the shift. Ensure proper packaging materials are used for product type. Packaging of finished product on pallet following all quality related inspections and secondary roll preparations such as transitional film pull back. Maintain safe working practices and abide by the company’s safety rules. Keep area clean.

Minimum Knowledge and Skills:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively
  • Basic math skills
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
