About the Position:


Signode Industrial Group is looking for a materials Manager with proven success in a manufacturing environment.  This successful candidate will obtain the best quality and value for products and services through effective bidding, negotiation, and supplier management. Identifies manufacturing needs, identifies, and selects suppliers and arranges delivery. Purchases a high volume and variety of parts, equipment, services, and materials.


Position Responsibilities and Job Functions:


  • Research potential suppliers and recommend those which will have greatest positive impact on the business.
  • Research parts, equipment, machinery, services, and Raw materials availability.
  • Develops potential bidder list and initiates formal request for quotation or proposal.
  • Conducts supplier site visits and evaluates them as to production capability, performance, delivery, and other key criteria.
  • Purchase parts, equipment, and materials by preparing request for quotations and submitting PO with approved supplier.
  • Selects suppliers for lower cost and limited priced items and negotiates price, delivery, quality, and service.
  • Facilitates resolution of issues by arranging and participating in meeting between key parties.
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities and provides suggestions for cost reduction and improved efficiency.
  • Purchase and coordinate components arrival date to meet required production ship date. Support production on procuring miscellaneous components shortages.
  • Create Purchase Order (PO), place orders by using supplier’s websites or send PO to vendors.
  • Follow up on order according to document date and expediting lead time parts with suppliers.
  • Negotiate and set term with new suppliers.
  • Work closely with accounting on any paperwork regarding payments, backup, and other related documents.
  • Responsible for creating packing slips, shipping labels and scheduling pickup with FedEx and UPS for both domestic & international outgoing shipments.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Position Requirements

  • 3 - 5+ years of purchasing / buyer / procurement / inventory expediting experience desired related/within the industry
  • Equivalent combined education and experience providing both theoretical and practical knowledge in the field.
  • Knowledge of key purchasing and negotiation methods, principles, and concepts.
  • Ability to analyze complex data, identify and execute savings opportunities, implement sourcing strategies, and quickly execute tasks to realize benefits.
  • Effectively communicate and present information to suppliers, team members, team leaders and top management.
  • Ability to read and understand the complexities of the BOM.
  • Must be a team player, flexible and able to prioritize workload based on the urgency of incoming orders. 
  • Ability to interface with vendors and internal/external customers professionally and diplomatically.
  • Ability to promptly read incoming emails and send appropriate responses.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good computer skills: Microsoft: Word, Excel, and Outlook and ability to learn new skills and tasks as required
  • Good mathematics aptitude and very detailed oriented.
  • Must be highly organized, self-motivated, and able to multi-task.
  • Ability to perform at the highest level in a fast-paced environment.
  • Identifying and integrating alternatives when it comes to products or suppliers to improve lead times, on-time deliveries, high quality and stable supply

Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills for application in negotiations with vendors
