Description/Job Summary

POSITION SUMMARY 

The Senior Payroll and Tax Analyst is responsible for bi-weekly payroll processing and the accurate and timely processing of all taxes for a multi-state payroll, as well as the accurate reporting and reconciliation of all payroll taxes. This role works closely with colleagues in Human Resources, Accounting, Compensation and Benefits to ensure a seamless integration of the various functions as they interface with payroll. The Senior Payroll and Tax Analyst has a thorough understanding of the Payroll system and Tax Service. 


In addition, the Senior Payroll and Tax Analyst works closely with the unemployment compensation management vendor to ensure that state unemployment rates are current and proper data is provided for audit purposes. They effectively communicate with various outside vendors and agencies in order to maintain payroll system integrity. 

We offer a competitive salary with a range of $64,000 - $79,000 based on experience and skill set. A variety of benefits are also available, including medical, dental, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability, as well as Signode’s 401(k) program. 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Ensure the integrity, accuracy and on-time delivery of employee payroll on a bi-weekly basis 

  • Balance Time & Attendance records against payroll data 

  • Supports the business units on employee payroll tax set-ups 

  • Review Wage and Tax Audit Report and W-2 Management Report 

  • Audit quarterly tax reports and resolve issues or discrepancies 

  • Maintain all payroll records and reports, including quarterly and annual filings 

  • Audit employee tax set ups 

  • Reconciles annual payroll tax filings and W-2’s for all U.S. and Canada entities 

  • Prepare and submit new state and local payroll tax ID registrations 

  • Assist business units with time reporting and manual adjustments to earnings, taxes, and deductions 

  • Review and approve direct deposit transactions submitted via the employee self-service portal 

  • Stay current on the latest payroll regulatory changes; e.g. stock option exercises, restricted stock updates (RSU’s), and relocation packages 

  • Other duties and projects as assigned 


REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES 

  • Strong analytical, organization, and problem-solving skills 

  • Experience handling routine and complex payroll and payroll tax inquiries 

  • Proficiency with the organization’s HRIS / Payroll system (Ceridian Dayforce) or equivalent HCM system 

  • Ability to research federal and state payroll tax regulations 

  • Proven ability to conduct root-cause analysis and drive continuous improvement 

  • Strong focus on discretion and confidentiality 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work on various projects simultaneously 

  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment 

  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) 

  • Detail oriented with a strong focus on accuracy 


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in accounting, finance, or a related field 

  • 3-5 years’ experience in payroll processing and payroll tax 

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), Payroll Certification, and Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) preferred
