Job Description

SUMMARY


This position's primary responsibility is to establish a premier domestic packaging lab in our Glenview headquarters.  The Packaging Lab Manager will upgrade and reconfigure the  lab to be more conducive to customer visits, allow for better balancing of testing and demonstrations, and promote the sales values and full capabilities of our equipment.  In addition, this position will have accountability for the global packaging function under the Equipment & Tools platform.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee Packaging Lab(s) and build a commercial proposition to generate revenue and ensure consistent utilization of assets
  • Lead the strategic development of the global packaging lab program.
  • Utilize lab capabilities as part of an overall solutions selling program. Develop processes and methods to provide end of line/transit  packaging optimization.
  • Develop program for packaging design and recommendation including materials for field sales, training programs, software development, etc.
  • Coordinate with each lab to ensure alignment and leverage of resources, capabilities, knowledge, etc.
  • Oversee packaging lab engineers. Develop plan for packaging lab equipment, resource and training needs
  • Keep up-to-date on industry standards and trends related to packaging testing requirement and best practices.  Re-launch efforts to influence standards / specifications for transit packaging globally
  • Develop outreach program to ensure internal and external stakeholders are aware of the value and capabilities of the labs and ensure full value is achieved in the market
  • Track lab activity related to expenditures and benefits.  Provide regular reports indicating the hard and soft benefits including new and retained business, key account support, gained knowledge such as improved packaging recommendations, industry and association engagement, etc.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS


Education: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required, Packaging Engineering specialization a big plus


Experience / Abilities:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in industrial testing and/or packaging required
  • Experience in global team or environment a plus
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong team building skills
  • Ability to establish lab standards and best practices based on applicable industry standards
  • Professional and able to work well with customers
  • Ability to travel 10-20% domestically


Computer skills:

  • Proficient in MS Office
