Summary: To lead the quality planning and evaluations of Signode Consumable Product (steel strap and seals) conformance to specifications and initiating and maintaining quality systems for the domestic steel manufacturing plant.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Position - Quality Assurance Manager directs the auditing of consumable products (strapping and seals) manufactured by Signode plants, subsidiaries, licensees and vendors.
  • Directs numerous special test and projects requested by sales, engineering, international distributors, or manufacturing.
  • Monitor audit results for trends through our SPC software which would indicate a process or product variance at the specific Signode manufacturing location. Reports performance deviations to management of that location for correction of the problem.
  • Develop daily/weekly reports.
  • Acts as liaison between marketing, engineering, manufacturing and consumable engineering in the development, testing and introduction of new Signode standard products.
  • Develop a change action process to monitor and report changes to steel strapping and seals.
  • Responsible for the development of product specifications, checklist and test procedures.
  • Evaluates customer complaints from sales or customers by testing for conformance to specification, with deviations reported to management, and is responsible for facilitating RCCA (Root Cause and Corrective Action) events and reports.
  • Conduct competitive consumable product evaluations comparison to Signode products and report findings to sales and marketing.
  • Maintain historical files to determine competitive trends with periodical reports issued to support the sales effort.
  • Conduct Plant Quality Audits and report on findings to management.
  • Conduct training on steel strapping characteristics.
  • Develop, write, and oversee Bridgeview quality documentation, including SOP's and SOC's.
  • Develop and facilitate RCCA for all major internal quality issues in all production departments.
  • Identify and report product problem areas to management by conducting quality testing on returned product and analyzing customer complaints.
  • Provide access to quality and performance history of Signode and competitive products audited by maintaining files of collected data.
  • Develop and maintain an organization appropriate to departmental objectives.
Job Requirements
  • This position requires a Bachelor's of Science Degree
  • 5 -10 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment as a Quality Engineer.
  • The ideal candidate would have knowledge of Signode products, and production assembly practices but is not necessary.
  • Process advanced quality control techniques such as the design of experiments (DOE), gauge R&R, multivariate, SPC charting and other problem solving techniques, as well as the demonstrated ability to put these skills to effective use.
  • The incumbent should possess personal skills of leadership, communication and follow-through, as well as high level of mechanical aptitude.
  • It would be a decided advantage for the individual to be certified as a quality auditor for conducting internal quality systems audits.
  • Experienced in RCCA practices and facilitation of events.
