Job Description

As a Senior Engineering Technician for the Global Metals team, your primary role is to support your manager and the engineers with machine commissioning and installations, conduct testing, troubleshoot and perform necessary repairs of both electrical and mechanical components. In addition, this position provides training and technical support to internal and external customers. 


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 


  • Provide technical support to customers and to SIG Field Service in the office and in the field 
  • Conduct feasibilities check at customer site for Project Approval 
  • Commission (i.e. machine acceptance), coordinate and supervise installations 
  • Monitor compliance with the standards and the safety acceptance of the products and creates the appropriate documentation 
  • Plan and implement training for resellers, end customers and their technicians, and SIG Field Service 
  • Assist with the preparation of the operating manuals / service documents. Write detailed customer visit (customer issues, troubleshooting steps, product info, etc.) and warranty reports. 
  • Handle warranty and goodwill cases 
  • Test machines prior to FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) and conduct technical machine audits. 
  • If necessary, support Production at Signode Glenview or Suburban facilities 
  • Identify possible sales opportunities for maintenance contracts 
  • Daily communication with the Project Manager to set priorities 
  • Support of our international team on machine installation, commissioning & training, mainly in US & Canada 
  • Other duties as assigned 


POSITION QUALIFICATIONS 

Education: 
Associate's degree or Technical certification (electrical, electronics, mechatronics, or similar discipline), equivalent work experience or combination of education and experience 


Experience / Abilities: 

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with the installation, repair and maintenance of fully automatically operated industrial facilities 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with troubleshooting or programming PLC software (Allen-Bradley and Siemens) 
  • Experience in development or technical support of industrial equipment a plus 
  • Excellent learning ability 
  • Possesses a sense of urgency and customer focus 
  • Solutions-oriented thinking 
  • Solid organizational skills 
  • Ability to juggling multiple projects at a time 
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics required 
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal 
  • Able to travel about 60-80% including some international travel 


Computer skills: 

  • Proficiency in MS Office suite (Word, Excel and Outlook) 
  • Experience in SharePoint, Solidworks and Autodesk CAD a plus
