Description/Job Summary
The Application Controls Engineer will be responsible for designing, planning, integrating, and commissioning of the Signode varied end of line packaging equipment. Support of electrical/electronic controls and instrumentation for machinery and support equipment used in the manufacturing process. Equipment supported includes new and existing which is either purchased or built in house.
Responsibilities/Duties
- Design, plan, and implement electrical/controls for new and existing equipment for improved performance
- Develop and implement the communication interface for integrating multiple machines with varied control systems under a master line controller
- Develop PLC based control systems, with PLC ladder logic, including structured text or function block, using various computer programs including Rockwell and Siemens based software
- Design and develop HMI screens to interface with the main/remote control system
- Implement cost savings projects by evaluating and implementing new and improved processing techniques or electrical/controls enhancements
- Assist in the training and development of electronic technicians and other electrical engineers. Support manufacturing by assisting electronic technicians in troubleshooting and repairing complex electrical and electronic equipment
- Provide innovative technical leadership to other engineering disciplines in the use of electrical and electronic products in their projects
- Participate in technical design reviews to ensure electrical design integrity is achieved
- Recommend and review preventive maintenance programs, gauging systems, and machine controllers. Complete equipment proposals and purchases for these types of programs and systems
- Evaluate new technologies in the electrical and electronic field for the purpose of incorporating these technologies in these manufacturing processes. Utilize these technologies to improve production processes, part quality, and safety Implement new types of testing and calibrating instruments to aide electronic technicians and other engineers troubleshoot and repair equipment
- Evaluate machine vendor proposals for effective processor and programming requirements. Lend project technical and management support as necessary on new capital programs
- All other duties as required
Required Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited institution
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing setting
- Minimum 5 years of experience with designing PLC control systems and architecture
- Experience in integrating automated systems including robotics and conveying systems
- Experience using CAD systems (AutoCAD Electrical preferred…etc.)
- Rockwell Automation (Allen Bradley) Controls experience
- Some knowledge of state and national codes and their applications
- Editing expertise of master electrical specifications
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future Preferred Qualifications
